How can something so little need so much?!?!?!?

This is the after-effect of our trip back to Kansas Memorial Day weekend. Not only did Betsy's wonderful HS friends throw her a shower, but her brother and his wife gave us a bunch of stuff as well. Yay for Baby Douglass.

Famous Birthdays

Since our due date is October 23rd, we looked up the famous people who would share our baby's birthday, assuming baby Douglass arrives right on time.

In the realm of world leaders we have Tsar Peter II, and former Vice President Adlai Stevenson.

In the world of sports we have Chi Chi Rodriguez, Doug Flutie, and former Redskins linebacker Patrise Alexander.

In the world of entertainment, there is talk show host Johnny Carson, country singer Dwight Yokum, director Ang Lee, singer/songwriter "Wierd" Al Yankovic, and actor Ryan Reynolds.

Here's a link to see all of the famous people who share October 23rd as their birthday: Famous Birthdays

Week 17 over...Week 18 begins.....

Baby Douglass is growing and so is momma Betsy. This week Baby Douglass' skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — the lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Baby Douglass probably weighs about 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and is around 5 inches long from head to rump. Baby Douglass can move its joints, and it's sweat glands are starting to develop.

Additionally, those little fingers and toes feature one-of-a-kind prints!!!!

Out of everything we keep reading, we know that we'll be able to feel Baby Douglass move soon....so excited for that experinece..and hope that Betsy knows it's the baby moving and not gas!

Baby Douglass' beating heart

The other day we went to the OB doctor for our 3rd appointment - well, Betsy went to the appointment as Bill was a little under the weather. However, all is going well. Betsy got to hear the baby's heartbeat again. It is amazing to hear it beat like that...we could listen to it forever. It reminds you that there really is a living being growing inside of your body.

But, the heartbeat sounds great..healthy and fast.

Our next appointment is June 8th and we'll be getting our 20 week sonogram. We're looking forward to seeing how big Baby Douglass has grown since it's first pictures in March.

Yellow Lillies or Tigger's Tummy???

Over the past couple of months, we've been "nesting"....or Betsy has been "nesting" and Bill has been doing all of the work. While Betsy was on a work trip in April, Bill painted the nursery - Yellow Lillies or Tigger's Tummy (depending on who you talk to). We decided on yellow as we don't yet know the gender of Baby Douglass.

Everyone keeps asking us if we will find out....and that is still under discussion. Betsy doesn't want to find out and Bill does.

What are your thoughts?

The Hospital

Happy May Everyone!

We can't believe it's already May..and we can't believe that it's snowing outside today either.

This afternoon, we went on a tour of the Birth Center at Memorial Hospital - Central. This is the hospital where we will deliver. The Birth Center features private birth and recovery suites, clinical specialists and is connected to the Memorial Hospital for Children should there be any problems.

We were very impressed with what we saw and what we heard on our tour and feel as though we'll be very comfortable giving birth there.

Here is a link to a virtual tour of the hospital: The Hospital

We did find it odd that we were the only couple on the tour not giving birth within the next 4 weeks. Does that make us over-anxious?????
