One of my favorite replies so far to the announcement of the upcoming addition to our family:
"You will love it -- the best reason ever to have your world turned upside down!"
Next OB appointment is April 12th. Hope to hear the heartbeat during this visit.

The First Trimester

The ride begins.....
And who knew that it would truly begin on Bill's 38th birthday. That was when we ventured to the OB doctor for our first visit (week 8). Not only did the entire staff know that it was Bill's birthday, but we were able to get a first glimpse of our growing baby inside of Betsy.
Due Date: October 23rd
Prior to the doctor's visit, we had known for a couple of weeks that Betsy was pregnant, but the doctor's office wanted to wait until week 8 for our first visit. It was a very good visit - and everything seeems to be going well. But, boy, were we in for a shock of all of the information that we were going to need to start reading and becoming literate in. Of course, you always know that a pregnancy is going to be a learning curve, but we guess you always think that you'll have time for that later.
As the pictures were taken on Bill's birthday, we had some fun with our families and sent the pictures in an email titled "Pictures from Bill's Birthday" - telling everyone not to forget to call him and wish him a Happy Birthday. For the record, Andy Liebsch (Betsy's brother) gets the prize for checking his email first even though Cindy Cookson (Betsy's sister) and the Ted Douglass family (Bill's brother) knew the day before.
The first trimester hasn't been too bad. There has been no traditional "morning sickness", however, there were sometimes when a shot of nauseousness would come over Betsy. Before it was confirmed that we were pregnant, Betsy did notice that she was quite hungry, and now looking back at it, Betsy thinks that maybe she was mistaking the nauseousness for hunger pangs and just ate her way through the first couple of months!!!
We are now finishing up week 11 and we go back for our next doctor's visit on April 12th. We'll update again then.
Thanks for all of the well wishes and support we've gotten thus far. We are so excited!
